There are two movies loosely based on the supposed possession of Anneliese Michael, a German college student who thought she was possessed by demons. After medicine failed to help her condition, which had been diagnosed as epilepsy, she decided to undergo two exorcisms. She inadvertently died and her family and two priests were held accountable for her death. Her grave still receives many visitors who believe she fought the devil. The movies loosely based upon her story were Requiem and The Exorcism of Emily Rose.

Note of interest: We find in Matthew 17:20-21 a case in which the apostles could not cast out a demon from the epileptic demoniac. Jesus rebuked them for not being prepared and told them only through prayer and fasting could this demon be cast out.. Anneliese was thought to be an epileptic as well.

WHAT IS REQUIEM?

The Requiem (from Latin requiem, accusative case of requies, rest) or Requiem Mass (informally, a funeral Mass), also known formally (in Latin) as the Missa pro defunctis or Missa defunctorum ("mass for the departed" or "mass of the departed," respectively), is a liturgical service of the Roman Catholic Church, Anglo-Catholic Anglicans, as well as certain Lutheran Churches in the United States.

The common theme of requiems is prayer for the salvation of the soul(s) of the departed, and it is used both at services immediately preceding a burial, and on occasions of more general remembrance.

"Requiem" is also the title of various musical compositions used in such liturgical services or as concert pieces as settings of the portions of that Mass which have been traditionally sung in the Roman Catholic liturgy.
